The Halls of Learning
"The instrument (the mechanical clock) presently spread outside the monastery; and the regular striking of the bell brought a new regularity into the life of the workman and the merchant... Time-keeping passed into time-serving and time-accounting and time-rationing. As this took place, Eternity ceased gradually to serve as the measure and focus of human actions."
-Lewis Mumford, Technics and Civilization
So true... Time-serving, time-rationing... That seems to be all I'm doing lately. This and this must be done tomorrow, this needs to be done next week, this should be turned in three weeks, 4 days, and 7 hours from now. I will spend exactly 3 hours at drama practice, 3 hours doing homework, one hour to organize my collegiate life, 7 hours sleeping... It goes on and on. Everything is deadlines!
I really don't blame Niemi for being so flexible (and yes, wishy-washy) on due dates and deadlines anymore. Not knowing can be nice. It leaves some room for breathing.
Just remember.... "You Can't Take it With You."
*wise nod*
Anyway... That lovely quote came from a multiple choice test that Niemi sent home with us to enlighten our young minds. I really liked that one. I wrote the essay, too, which I'm pretty sure falls just short of brilliantly written. I will make up for the Joan of Arc essay. Niemi agreed that it was my worst yet. (Still a 6, but I can do a lot better.) I didn't defend or challenge. I'm not completely sure I qualified, either... I just took a nice middle route. European history is the best class I've ever taken for random philosophers and information to pull out and use as evidence. I used Descartes, Locke, and Kant. All lovely men, and ones whose work I could use to make my argument sound more intelligent. Good old Euro.
I suppose I should go get ready for that presentation in Euro tomorrow, then? It will be an experiment for me. This is the first time I've done anything like this in the class since I've decided to be a history teacher. Do I have it in me? We shall see. I learned last semester that I'm perfectly fine in front of Sra. Wiger's class. Peterson's? Hmm...
(Random note to Rianna and Sara: I got my class registration stuff from Hamline in the mail. Any suggestions or advice? I haven't looked at it that closely yet. I skimmed, since I was pressed for time to start homework. I'll get to it eventually! Oh! There's a FYSEM called "Writing Through Darkness!" Fun? I think so. Must do that one... Also gets me out of freshman English class. Good times.)

FRUIT!
Yeah, I should probably take that hour to organize my college junk. I keep forgetting. I Did send in my "Yes" form, but just watch... I'll have a spot there next year but no classes or housing. THAT would be great.
AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
AP testing, graduating (YIKES), college registering, life packing, and Dramatizing are all good things (well, mostly. Bittersweetish, actually) in their own right, but WHAT SADISTIC MANIAC DECIDED TO HAVE THEM ALL HAVE TO HAPPEN IN THE SAME TWO MONTH STINT?????
Okay, I'm better.
We should all go out for smoothies or something. LIFE!

Who decided? The Powers That Be, of course. The world, "them," "they." As in "They/the world are/is out to get me!" Or, if you prefer, The Man.
Let's stick it to The Man and get smoothies. (And perhaps bring massives piles of college packets and papers along!)
Random comment: New word found in the Euro book. Denazification. Never heard that one before. The denazification of Germany.

Michelle, the presentations in Euro are next week... Just to let you know. Of course, at this point, it's probably too late to change what you've already done to prepare.
I haven't done the essay yet; I'm going to do that this morning. I loved the Joan of Arc essay, my 8 irritated me... Sorry, it just did. :)

Next week? Hmm. My mind is getting messed up. I should start writing things down.
Considering that I spent about 30 very distracted minutes on that essay... I'm pretty happy with my 6. Not everyone can be perfect like you, ya know. :P
